Blackberry bramble slushie recipe

When I had my first blackberry bramble, I was instantly impressed. I had mostly been drinking Tanqueray and tonics at the time — pretty boring — but this was pretty next-level. By the time I drank the last sip of my second one, I was downright evangelical.

A well-respected cocktail among British bartenders, a true bramble is a sophisticated cocktail made from a handful of simple ingredients: top shelf gin, fresh lemon, simple syrup and topped with crème de mûre (blackberry liqueur) and two fresh blackberries.
However, in the United States our collective preoccupation with margaritas and mojitos may be keeping this woefully underrated drink from the widespread success it deserves.

In late summer to early autumn when blackberries are in season, try this quick and dirty blender recipe for a blackberry bramble that may not be a true bramble but is a ridiculously good slushie just bursting with blackberry and lemon flavors just the same — you may even like it better than those margaritas.

Notes

A well-respected cocktail among British bartenders, a true bramble is a sophisticated cocktail made from a handful of simple ingredients: top shelf gin, fresh lemon, simple syrup and topped with Crème de Mûre (blackberry liqueur) and two fresh blackberries. If you're interested in trying the classic blackberry bramble recipe, you should know that crème de mûre can be pretty hard to find in the United States. The closest I know of is crème de cassis (which is actually made from blackcurrant).
