December Food Holidays

National and international food holidays and observances for the month of December

Religious holidays and their traditional foods play a very important role in December as Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Christmas are all celebrated this month. After the stuffing you got on Thanksgiving, you may not be ready for the Christmas ham, lamb, turkey, mutton or chicken coming your way in December.

In a month filled with sweets, treats, pastries and puddings, when we literally hang candy from trees, you might be tempted to just grab a gingerbread house, a jug of cider a lot of eggnog and live in the attic for a couple of weeks instead of facing up to the daunting amount of food you’ll soon be responsible for making. But before you tear off that first frosted graham cracker wall and begin your life as a Christmas hermit, know that whether you’re making a Christmas ham, brisket, latkes, catfish or gumbo, all of that time in the kitchen will have been worth it the end.
