May Food Holidays

National and international food holidays and observances for the month of May

Ah, Cinco De Mayo, where Americans inexplicably celebrate the Mexican Army’s defeat of France at the Battle of Puebla by drinking frozen strawberry margaritas and eating complimentary chips and salsa. Bizarre? Absolutely. But any day filled with festivities and Tex-Mex is a good day in my book.

National Barbecue Month is this month along with National Hamburger Month, National Hamburger Week and American Beer Week just in case you weren’t sure if Memorial Day was in May.

Finally this month is the annual gifting of flowers, well-intended art projects, picture frames and perhaps a Keurig to our under-appreciated mothers while they eat a sweet, but inedible, breakfast in bed. Happy Mother’s Day!
